Principal Vanessa Harshberger of Bishop Carroll Catholic High School announces that two of our students have been named National Merit Semifinalists in the 55th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. They are Anna Gunther and Alex Johnson. Bishop Carroll has one commended scholar: Natalie Hubbell.
Anna is the daughter of Greg and Sue Gunther of St. Francis of Assisi Parish. She is looking at KSU for college and studying math and Spanish. She plays tennis for BCCHS and is a member of the Flyer staff , Liturgy Club, God Squad, National Honor Society, CYO, and she serves her parish as a lector, Eucharistic minister and PSR teacher’s aide.
Alex is the son of William “Rusty” and Theresa Johnson of St. Patrick’s Parish, Wichita, and is looking at KU to study German or law. Alex is on the Flyer staff and swims for BCCHS. He is in German Club and on the Scholars’ Bowl team.
Our Commended scholar is Natalie Hubbell, daughter of Michael and Susan Hubbell of St. Patrick Parish, Kingman.
More than 1.3 million juniors in over 21,000 high schools entered the 2010 Merit Program by taking the 2009 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test in October 2008. The Finalists are among the approximate 15,000 students who continued in the competition for some 8,200 Merit Scholarship awards worth $35 million that will be offered this spring. Finalists have an outstanding academic record throughout high school, are recommended by their principal, have earned SAT scores that confirm their performance, participated in school and community activities, and submitted a personal essay. |
