| Alumni Main | Notable Alumni: Steve Beyrle (1968) - Beyrle was Bishop Carroll's first High School All-American in any sport. He went on to play football at Kansas State, where he was a three-year starter at center before being drafted by the New England Patriots in the 1972 NFL Draft. Mike Bell (1975) - Following his football playing days at Carroll, Mike went to Colorado State where he became an All-American at defensive end his senior year. He was drafted second overall by the Kansas City Chiefs. He played 12 seasons for the Chiefs and earned two Pro-Bowl honors. Mark Bell (1975) - Mike's twin brother, Mark also played football at Colorado State. Mark was a defensive end and tight end who set several records there, including career touchdown receptions. He was drafted in the 4th round by the Seattle Seahawks, for whom he played six NFL seasons. Rod Nuckolls (1975) - Nuckolls won two individual state golf championships at Carroll and then played for Wichita State. There he had an All-American career while leading the Shockers to three-straight MVC championships. In five years on the PGA Tour, Nuckolls had three top-ten tournament finishes. Dr. Stephen Kuhlman (1978) - Is a physicist at the Argonne National Laboratory in Illinois. He worked on the scientific team that discovered the sub-nuclear particle, the "quark". David LaFleur (1979) - Is an artist and art director for American Greetings. He designed the US Postal Service's 32 cent stamp "Victorian Porch", published in 1995. Other works include the mural at the Warren Theatre at Maize and 21st St., Wichita; the 1996 series of paintings "Folk Heroes", and many other projects. Scott McPhail (1988) - is a manager and head of communications for Dreamworks Animation Production Service in Los Angeles. In 2000 he directed and produced "The Good Things", a story of the life of a turnpike toll taker, filmed near Cassoday, KS, in the Flint Hills. He is listed among Butler Community College's Distinguished Alumni. Jennifer Bachman (1993) - This middle-infield softball player was a two-time all city selection while at Bishop Carroll. She went on to have a standout career at Wichita State where she was a three-time All-Missouri Valley Conference pick. Blake Blasi (1997) - Blasi led Carroll to two city league titles and was an all-city shortstop his junior year. After graduating, he played for Wichita State, where he became a two-time All-MVC second baseman. He was also named the 2000 Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year. Following college, he was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the 10th round and is still in their organization today. Lisa Donovan (1998) - Donovan led Carroll's volleyball team to two state championships her junior and senior years. She was also a two-time all-city selection at setter. Following high school, she played at East Carolina University. Jakub Voboril (2007) - Scored a perfect ACT of 36 and a perfect SAT 2400 his senior year and now attends Princeton University. |
