What does a School Counselor do?
School counselors advocate and assist students as they prepare for life after high school. This includes setting up student schedules, academic support and accountability, ACT/SAT testing, scholarships, career planning and making sure our students are spiritually, academically, and emotionally healthy.

We also realize high school can be difficult academically, socially, and emotionally. There are a lot of expectations to succeed academically. While we want all our students to discover their full potential academically, we also want to support their social emotional health. One of the big advantages in working at a Catholic school is that as we support students academically and emotionally, we are able to do this in a Christ-centered environment! We believe Christ is at the center of what we do every day! Our hope is each student will discover their full potential academically, socially, and most importantly, spiritually.
What does a Student Advocate do?
A student advocate provides supportive listening and encouragement to students, as they learn more about themselves, others and navigating through various challenges and situations in high school. Here are some examples of assistance that can be provided.
- One-on-one support in a quiet, safe office space to help students explore various social-emotional problems
- Conflict resolution with family, friends, teachers
- Adjusting to high school, interpersonal skills, depression, anxiety, self-harm behaviors, suicidal ideations, harassment/bullying, managing peer pressure, hyperactivity, social media safety, trauma, alcohol/drug use.
- Pray and provide spiritual support to students when requested or appropriate
- Provide students and families with appropriate referrals for community-based services
- Connect students and their families with accessing school support services
- Provide Crisis Interventions, and conduct crisis risk assessments
- Support teachers and staff
